Custom Logo Cake Box Printing: How OEM Works with a Chinese Factory

From artwork to printed box: the OEM customization process for bakery packaging, including design support and what factories need from you.

A printed cake box turns every handover into brand exposure, but first-time buyers often find the OEM process opaque: what can be customized, what the factory needs from you, and how long it all takes. This guide walks through the process as it works with our factory - a paper packaging manufacturer in Dongguan, China - so your first custom order does not surprise you.

1. What Can Be Customized: Logo, Label, Packaging, Color and Size

Customization on bakery packaging covers five things: the logo printed on the box, the label and text layout, the packaging format itself, the color scheme, and the size. In practice buyers rarely change all five - most start with logo and color on an existing format, then adjust size once their cake range is stable.
A good example from our range is the free-design tall cake box for birthday and wedding cakes: a layered high box with a window where the buyer's logo, label, color and size all follow the buyer's brand. Reference pricing on the Alibaba listing is US$0.40-0.60 per piece.
Most buyers work through these five options in stages: first the logo and colors on an existing format, then size adjustments once their cake range settles, and only later new formats built around a specific product. Staging the changes this way keeps each order simple to approve and simple to re-order.

2. Design Support: From Your Samples or Graphics

You do not need finished print files to start. Factories work from two inputs: your samples or your graphics. Send a box you already like and the factory can use it as a structural reference and adapt it; or send your logo artwork and the factory lays it out for a cake box format.
The design loop is: you send the artwork or sample, the factory returns a layout for confirmation, you approve it (or mark up changes), and only then does production start. This loop is the cheapest place to catch mistakes, so it is worth the extra days.
Buyer rule of thumb: approve the layout slowly and produce quickly. A mistake caught in layout costs hours; one caught in production costs the whole run.

3. Sampling, Lead Time and MOQ: What to Expect

Once a layout is approved, the factory makes a sample. At our facility sampling takes about 5 days, and average production lead time is 15 days. A one-year product warranty applies to our packaging items.
Minimum order quantities vary by product. On our listings, for example, corrugated lid-and-tray cake boxes start at a 100-piece MOQ while the 10x14 inch display tray starts at 3,000 pieces. Tell us the items you want and we will confirm the MOQ for each.
Payment terms are buyer-friendly: T/T and L/C are standard, and PayPal is accepted. Inquiries are answered within four working hours on average.
